What is a podcast?

According to Wikipedia a podcast is "...a digital media file (or a series of such files) that is distributed over the Internet using sydication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers.1

The New Oxford American Dictionary that selected "podcast" as the Word of the Year in 2005, defines it as  " ..a digital recording or a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.." 2

In an interesting article on Understanding the Podcast revolution, Alicia Bankhofer says that podcasts are mini audio programmes in MP3 format that are broadcasted over the internet and downloaded to a MP3 compatible player.

Now,that we know what it is, let's look at what some people are doing with podcasts.      PODCASTS IN EDUCATION
